Important Notice and Rules for Horizon Trails!
I have some information to pass on for those that use the Camp Horizon trail, which is 3 miles East of Arkansas City Kansas. This information pertains mainly to "Lyle's Loop", which is the first 2.5 miles of the trail and is on private land. I talked to the land owner and the following is what he would like to communicate to the trail users.
First and foremost, NO MOTORCYCLES OR HORSE BACK RIDING ALLOWED. If someone were to do this ~ it could end our use of the trail. If you see someone getting ready to or actually on the Horizon Trail with a motorized vehicle or horse, quickly take action to get them out of there!
Second, the land owner has dogs, and does not want any trail users to bring dogs on the trail. He has already had to break up one dog fight and does not want to have to do it again. So NO DOGS, on "Lyle's Loop"! I think most of the cases have been hikers with their dogs, but I know a few cyclists have dogs and occasionally bring them on the trail. Again, if you see someone with a dog please let them know the rule.
Third, they will be burning this same land within the next three weeks at night, so be aware.
Fourth, we did cut a new trail on "Lyle's Loop", but due to some miscommunication, and the landowner not liking the area where the trail was cut, we had to block this off and may no longer ride this section. So DO NOT use this part of the trail.
The owner said that he has caught a few people still using this new section of trail even though it is obviously blocked off! Stay off this trail so that it can be reclaimed.
Thanks for everyone's help on this matter. Please help to enforce these rules. Most of this is common sense and probably would never be an issue, but it does need to be communicated.
We want to continue to have a good relationship with the landowner and family for years to come and are grateful for the privilege to ride on their land. Cheers.
